Reciprocal Borrowers

  • If you hold a card from an Illinois library outside of the SWAN consortium, bring in your valid library card and a document proving your address, whereupon we will verify that your library card is in good standing. Once verified we will enter your card into our SWAN system. These cards can be used at all SWAN libraries and expire one year from the date of issue.

Other Information

  • If you lose your library card, immediately contact us so that we can put a stop on your card to prevent others from using it. There is a $1.00 fee for replacement of lost cards.

  • Library cards do not expire. However, if your card has not been used for 3 years or more and you owe $10 or less on your account, your card will be purged from the system, and you will need to reapply.

  • When you turn 18, you should reapply for a new library card to create an account separate from that of your parent or guardian.
